REVIEW Grill Mate 34000 BTU BBQ Zellers

I bought the Grill Mate 34000 BTU BBQ at Zellers two weeks ago. I do not like it very much. It simply does not meet my froogalism standard of saving money and getting more with less.

Here is what I do like about it … Continue reading ...

Going Bananas

A warm and heartfelt welcome to any new frugal chimpanzees (and humans) to visit our site based upon this enticing title.  Read on.

Bananas are delicious and they’re good for you.  They’re loaded with lots of good stuff.  The problem is this – when you buy a slightly unripe bunch to give yourself a lead day or two before you start enjoying them, they all seem to ripen at Continue reading ...

Money Saving at the Grocery Store

One of the best money saving tips at the grocery store is to use a shopping list. Using a list enables the frugal shopper to get what they need and to get more for their money by helping them target key sale items. It also reduces the temptation to fill the chopping cart with impulse purchases. In short, a list works very well.

When I walk into the grocery store Continue reading ...

Frugal Fun – Part One

Some people still confuse frugal living with stingy living and/or miserly living. I am not sure how this came about, but I hope that frugalists start taking some action towards changing these perceptions. Stingy and miserly people often go without basic human necessities because they hate to part with their money. Frugal people love things like soft toilet paper and delicious food; they just think about how they can get Continue reading ...

REVIEW Slow Food with the Rival Crock Pot Slow Cooker

Rival made the original Crock Pot slow cooker. It is a great way to make slow food (as opposed to fast food). As such, it is a healthy, convenient, and easy means for preparing hearty and nutritious meals. The Rival 3.5 quart slow cooker is an excellent value and at Top Pick at froogalism.com. REVIEW UPDATE Grill Mate 34000 BTU BBQ Zellers

It is with regret that I have to revise my previous rating for the Grill Mate 34000 BTU BBQ downwards based upon my continued use of this product. I have a rather serious concern – namely that the top heating rack (a feature that I previously liked on the Grill Mate 34000 BTU BBQ) quite frequently falls down when I open the lid. This rack swivels on two holes cut into the lid. Unfortunately, the rack keeps falling out of these holes. As such, I can no longer rate this product as a good buy (three stars). The Best Drinking Water is (almost) Free

I am rather fascinated by the love many have for bottled drinking water. Apparently we drink about 200 billion bottles of drinking water annually worldwide, and this number is growing at a strong rate each and every year. Research, however, underscores the utter wastefulness of this practice. Drinking bottled water just does not make sense for a number of reasons. Continue reading ...

REVIEW Prevention Magazine’s Nutrition Advisor

Sometimes a book comes along that just proves itself worthy. These are the types of books that earn a prominent placement on my bookshelf (or in my kitchen) because I use them time and time again. Most everything else I can get at the public library.

Of course, book selection is an entirely personal matter. If you enjoy a particular book a lot and use it regularly Continue reading ...

REVIEW Non-Stick Cookware and Your Health

There seems to be growing evidence that non-stick cookware may not be good for you and your children. One chemical used to make non-stick cookware, perfluorooctanoic acid and its salts (PFOA), has been determined a ‘likely carcinogen’ – that is, it is likely to cause cancer. Other research shows that it may also raise bad cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein) levels in children. Continue reading ...

REVIEW See Spot Run … RESOLVE Laundry Stain Remover

I am a big fan of Consumer Reports Magazine. I recently read an article in the July, 2011, edition that rated laundry stain removers. I was intrigued by their CR BEST BUY choice, RESOLVE Laundry Stain Remover. Not only is is very inexpensive relative to its competitors, but apparently it does a superior job as well. I decided to do a little testing on my own. Here are my results … Continue reading ...
