Gardena Hedge Clippers are the newest addition to my growing collection of garden tools.

My previous hedge clippers came with my house.  They were big, wooden-handled, clunky things with very heavy blades.  They were exhausting to use and they never did cut very well.  I decided to get myself a new pair of hedge clippers this spring.

Introduction

Gardena hedge clippers (in fact, all Gardena products) are not cheap.  Gardena is a top-end garden product manufacturer (visit their website). Spend a few minutes in the garden section of your local retailer, however, and you will soon discover that Gardena makes very good quality products.  The materials that Gardena uses appear to be excellent quality and the design and manufacture of their products seem superior.  A frugal-minded consumer is not scared off by price alone, he or she takes their time and does their research to determine the best value.

I have bought cheap gardening tools before and, in my view, they are a waste of money.  It makes no sense to buy something that is a bit cheaper that you will have to replace the very next season.  You will end up paying a much greater lifecycle cost for an inferior product that does an inferior job the whole time you are using it.

With that being said, Gardena Comfort Hedge Clippers 570 (392) represent excellent value (especially when you can get them on sale at the beginning or the end of the gardening season like I did).  Here are some key reasons why I like the Gardena hedge clippers so much:

Best Features of Gardena Hedge Clippers

Lightweight

This Gardena hedge clipper is light.  In fact, if I had fingers as long as Nosferatu or Edward Scissorhands I could clip away all day long without even breaking a sweat.  They weigh just 690 g, or under two pounds.

Cutting is Easy and Precise

The blades of the Gardena hedge clipper are coated with a non-stick coating that is like Teflon.  The blades snip away very easily and can make precise cuts when needed.  My old hedge clippers were often jamming and took quite a bit of effort to open and close the blades.  Cleaning and lubricating the blades after each helps to keep them sharp for longer and keeps their performance optimal.

Easy on the Hands (No More Blisters or Callouses)

The Gardena hedge clipper also soft orange gel grips on its handles.  They help you to grip the clipper firmly and also act as a shock absorber while you are cutting.  I no longer get blisters after a long hedge clipping session (yes, I used to get them even while wearing good gloves).  These gel grips are a really nice feature.

Summary

The Gardena hedge clipper is a welcome addition to my gardening tool repertoire.  The premium up-front cost of the Gardena clipper is worth it in my view.  It feels and acts like a product that is built to last and that will give you consistently excellent results for a long time.
