What is the best garden book? If you could only own one garden book, which would be the best?   Here is one suggestion.

Owning only one garden book fits beautifully with froogalism ideology. Why buy and make space for seven books, when one book will do the job? With this being said, I am the first to admit that I am a wholly amateur gardener. An expert gardener may very well find that one garden book will simply not suffice. A collector of garden books may also accrue tremendous enjoyment from owing a whole-wall library of garden books. My needs are quite simple; I want one book that tells me all that I need to know about my limited gardening aims.

Mostly, I try to grow perennials (as I love their low-maintenance aspect), tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, spinach, beans and peas. I am trying to grow broccoli and watermelon this year, but my hungry squirrels love these plants so much that I barely have any left for myself (and my daughter) at this point. I (try to) grow stuff mainly so that I can offer my daughter the freshest versions of stuff that she loves. I also know that I have NEVER used pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or store bought fertilizers (I use mulch) on my garden. In this respect, I know that my daughter is getting the freshest and highest-quality foods that are available to her.

I do currently have more than one garden book, but I will be undergoing a book purge shortly and will keep only those books that I refer to regularly. The one garden book that I use the most is the Home Depot Gardening 1-2-3. This garden book is an often-referred-to godsend for an amateur like me. It has many features that make it an invaluable one-stop garden book resource:
