Kraft Cheese Slices and the False Value Trap

Sometimes buying no-name or generic products just doesn’t make sense.  Sometimes the quality of the brand name product is just way too much better.  Kraft Cheese slices are just on example.

Kraft Cheese slices taste the best.  They taste the cheesiest and melt much better than any generic or no-name brand out there.  They even taste much better than any major brand name competitors like Cracker Barrel or Black Diamond.  The taste of the Kraft brand cheese slices is clearly superior in my view.

With that being said, I normally prefer the taste of real cheese.  Cheese slices are only good in a grilled cheese sandwich, in my opinion.    In all other situations, I prefer real cheese.

The beauty of Kraft cheese slices is the way that they melt and the way that they taste when melted.  All other brands (without exception in my tasting history), taste flat and bland (some even chemical-tasting).  They tend to melt like a spongy mass of inferior tasting goop.  They maintain a hideous shell of hard, plastic-tasting, cheese.  Kraft slices actually melt and move outside of their preformed shape.  These slices are the best of the best – if you are in the market for processed cheese.

Buying cheaper brands just doesn’t make sense in my view.  Like Green Giant vegetables, it pays to pay more in some cases.  The trade-off is that you get a far superior product.  Look for superior products on sale and stock up when you can.  Green Giant vegetables seem to go on sale every other month; Kraft cheese slices, less often.

In short, you are fooling yourself by thinking that no-name or generic or even Cracker Barrel or Black Diamond cheese slices are a good value.  They never are!  They are a clearly inferior product (even when on sale).  Wait until Kraft cheese slices are on sale, and buy yourself an expiry date driven supply to last you.

Thanks Linda, for being such a loyal and observant reader. You are right, it is an American package and I am Canadian. I’m sure they taste just as good and melt just as nicely in the US. To be honest, I didn’t even notice it. Thanks for the heads up.
