IMPORTANT UPDATE August 15th, 2011    ***THIS PROMOTION HAS NOW ENDED***                                    Many thanks to Joan for letting us know.

My Free Beach Towel from General Mills has arrived.  Here are my thoughts about this free offer and the free beach towel.

General Mills is offering a Free Beach Towel promotion in Canada (details of the free towel offer). They make lots of cereals including Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Oatmeal Crisp, and many more. I bought five boxes of cereal and ordered five different towels.

The Free General Mills Cheerios Towel (I think my daughter might like this one)

First, the delivery time is decent (three weeks). General Mills promised their free beach towel before September 30th, so you know that they know how to manage customer expectations (set the bar low and everyone will be amazed at how amazing you are). When else would I be happy about a three week delivery time (not normally)?  But for a free beach towel, three weeks is just fine.

I received two free beach towels today. The measurements are 57 x 30 1/2 inches or 145 x 77 cm. This is more than adequate to lie on (for most people, you will have your feet dangling over the edge). The quality of the material is like that of a cheap facecloth (like the kind that you might find at a dollar store). My mom tells me that some people actually prefer a thinner towel anyways is it is a bit easier to maneuver.

I have washed both towels once and the colour does not seem to have faded much (slightly, yes). I washed them separately in cold water and dried them on a medium temperature. My daughter loves Cheerios so I hope to surprise her tomorrow on a day out (maybe to a park or to a zoo).  I will bring some real Cheerios along just in case she tries to eat the blanket.

I find that thin towels are actually better for drying my daughter.  I find that they are much easier to move around and get her dry with.  Just a personal preference.  Thin towels are also much easier to fold up and bring along with you for a picnic or whatever.  I personally prefer thicker towels, but carrying them around with you is not very convenient when you only have a small backpack.

In summary, I have to give kudos to General Mills and their Free Beach Towel Offer.  I did not expect a luxuriously plush $30 towel.  What I did get, however, pleasantly surprised me.  It is a decent size and a decent quality.  Delivery is also surprisingly fast for a freebie.  For those of you who love thin towels, you will enjoy this free offer very much.  For those of you with children (who also may love thin towels), you will enjoy the convenience of carrying around one of these free Cheerios towels (or whatever other style you choose) because they are so lightweight and portable.  You simply can’t go wrong with this free beach towel offer from General Mills.
